RFDS facility Upgrade
The patient transfer facility at the Geraldton airport is used almost daily to transfer patients from Geraldton hospitals through to the major hospitals in Perth for further treatment or emergency surgery. Thanks to Brett Mainwaring and his passion for giving to the community, the facility has been proudly renovated.
After much consideration, Brett decided that with the assistance of some local businesses and volunteers he could turn the facility into something that could be a comfortable waiting area for RFDS pilots, St John Ambulance officers, patients and families awaiting air transfer.
Many local businesses recognised the great benefit of this innovative idea and as such, donated items including floor coverings, television, small fridge,
microwave, kettle, vertical blinds, hardware, lounges and other items too numerous to mention. Goldfields - Midwest Medicare Local is proud to have been amongst these sponsors who are helping to make the patient journey easier.
Thanks to all those businesses and the many volunteers who had worked tirelessly to make this project happen. Brett handed back the new facility to the City of Greater Geraldton on Friday, 26 July 2013. The grand opening was a huge success, with many of those businesses and volunteers being invited to view the finished product undoubtedly impressed. "It is unbelievable at what a few donations and lots of hard work can do. It really goes to show that the people of Geraldton are very community minded and generous" Mr Mainwaring said.
